3 Steps to Goal Setting

Aspirations do not unfold naturally. Getting off your keister and setting in place a solid action plan takes dedication, a lot of work, and a strong inner drive. Without self-motivation your goals rest on an imaginary shelf collecting dust. In turn, your self-worth starts to take a toll because feeling productive is a key element in a satisfying life. To get a jumpstart on achieving your goals, follow these steps:

Set a goal. Without a solid objective laid out, you won't have an internal pull to accomplish your goals. Write your goal on two pieces of paper. Put one piece of paper in a place where you are reminded of your goals everyday, such as your computer screen or the bathroom mirror. Fold the second piece of paper into a small square and place it in your pocket or in another place that you frequently put your hands. This way, every time you touch the paper you will be reminded about your goals.

Believe you can achieve your goals. Along with a specific action plan, your mindset plays a significant role on whether or not you reach your objectives. A positive frame of mind serves as a catalyst to success. On the flipside, a negative way of thinking sets unmovable hurdles in your path. Commit to your goals with positive self-talk by making statements such as, "I will achieve my goals."

Reassess your action plan. When your plan is not going as expected, reevaluate your course of action to determine whether you should re-adjust your strategy. That does not mean you should change your goal. In fact, you should do the exact opposite by fighting for your dream with more vigor. Reconsider the plan, tweak it, and then implement the new plan. Rinse. Lather. Repeat. Until you realize your goal.
