How to Paint After Stripping Wallpaper

    • 1). Fill a bucket with warm water, then mix in a few ounces of vinegar.

    • 2). Soak your sponge in the solution, wring it out and wipe down the wall. The wall should not be dripping wet -- just get it wet enough so that the glue absorbs the solution.

    • 3). Wait 10 minutes for the solution to soak into the glue. While it does, empty and rinse your bucket, then refill it with warm water.

    • 4). Soak a new sponge in water, wring it out and wipe down the wall. Make sure that you thoroughly rinse away the vinegar solution and leave the wall as dry as you can.

    • 5). Wait 24 hours to allow your wall to dry completely.

    • 6). Repair any leftover gouges or scratches by spreading joint compound with a putyy knife. Allow the joint compound to dry, then sand it smooth.

    • 7). Lay down tarps to protect your flooring and pour latex primer into a paint tray.

    • 8). Use paint rollers to give your wall a single coat of latex primer. After it dries, the wall is ready to be painted. Choose your color and paint as you would any wall.
